Remembering Jim MacDonald

Musselburgh RFC is saddened to hear that our oldest living player, Jim MacDonald, has passed away at the age of 95.

Jim joined the club in 1947 and played for many years, including wing for the 1st XV, until his banking career took over.

Jim moved on to be assistant treasurer to Eric Anderson. Eric and Jim formed a formidable finance team which supported the efforts of our visionaries such as Ramsay Smith as they took Musselburgh from a relatively low level junior team through to participation in the top tiers of rugby during the late 50s onwards.

Jim took over as Treasurer from Eric and navigated the club through further expansion as the league structures were implemented in the mid 70s.

As the club expanded so did the need for strict financial rigour and Jim was always available to give guidance to the Treasurers who followed him.

Jim was a well known and well liked member of the club for many years and he will be sadly missed.  There will be a minute silence ahead of this week’s match against Marr RFC.
