Musselburgh AGM 2023

The Annual General Meeting for Musselburgh RFC took place in the clubhouse on the night of the 13th June 2023.



The evening kicked off with Club President Brian Jardine giving his thoughts on the season, reflecting on the club's positive performances on and off the pitch, thanking the board, members, volunteers and players for their hard work which saw the 1XV remain in the Premiership for a fifth season


Director of Rugby Grant Talac moved onto the on pitch matters, starting with the Senior squad, referencing back to the Premiership season for the 1XV, the 2XV's competitive season in the East Reserve League, the 3XV, the future of women's rugby in the club, call ups for players to Inter-District, Super Series and Scotland squads, gym updates, coaching updates for 2XV, and looking ahead to the 2023/24 season.


In Youth Rugby, Talac mentions the work that Tom Foley has put on over the season in his role as Youth Development Officer for the club, plans for the club's representation in the Schools Conferences, our relationship with Loretto School, representation at age grade at District and National level, and Girls Rugby.


In Mini Rugby, Talac mentions the move to a new time slot for training after a drop off from Covid, new initiatives for sign ups, a successful tour from the P7's, the involvement with the mini players in involvement on match day, and a thanks to Neil Hogg for all his work as Mini Convenor.


Treasurer Jill Irving looked back on the financial year up to the 31st March 2023. The club remains in a well financial state thanks to sponsorship, including principal sponsorships increased membership, highlight events such as Centenary Ball in April 2022 and Sevens in May 2023, funding from Scottish Rugby and the use of gym from third parties. The spending from the club was discussed and accounts can be seen on the AGM section of the website.


Vice President Blair Stewart informed the members of the two projects for the year, the resurfacing of the car park at the clubhouse, and the renovation of the floodlights at Stoneyhill, after which there was a small discussion from members. More information on these projects will be announced in further detail in the near future.


The amendments to the constitution were then discussed and agreed by the members. These amendments can be found on the club website.


Subscriptions will remain the same as from the 2022/23 season. Details will be announced in due course.


The election of Honorary Presidents was next on the agenda. Steve Finch, from our principal sponsor Daxtra, and Alistar Bowman, long standing Fixtures Convenor, were elected in.


The Board will remain the same as last season, with Alistair Bonthron coming onboard as a general board member.


The election of Club Captain was next, with Jardine thanking outgoing Captain Danny Owenson for all his work over three years. Rory Watt has been elected by the players as new Club Captain with Sandy Watt and Michael Badenhorst being elected as Vice Captains.


There were no AOBs and the meeting concluded.
